Sarasota County To Restore Court House

Sarasota County has begun another round of restorations to the historic Sarasota County Courthouse, located at 2000 Main Street in Downtown Sarasota. In 2007, repairs were made to the building’s roof and tower. Now, restoration efforts will focus on restoring iron work and repainting the building’s exterior. The courthouse will not be closed during the restoration, and the restoration is not expected to affect any of the roads surrounding the building. This round of restorations is projected to be complete by Spring 2018.

The Sarasota County Courthouse was originally designed by Dwight James Baum and constructed by Stevenson and Cameron, Inc. in 1926. It has housed the main office of the Sarasota County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller for 91 years and was added to the US National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
